The definition
Soft Gamine is small and rounded, with curve on a delicate frame and crisp edges in the detail. It is the more yin of the two gamine identities. In the current ten-type system it is Curve + Petite.
Soft Gamine is a contrast identity, not a soft one. The frame is small and the flesh is round, but the clothes need crisp edges or the whole look collapses into fabric. The waist is the anchor.
What you may notice
These are the cues the identity is usually described with. They are not a checklist, and a single feature does not decide the type: the overall line does.
- A petite frame with visible curve at bust and hip.
- Delicate bones with a slightly angular or broad edge at the shoulder.
- Soft, fleshy arms and thighs on a small scale.
- Doll-like features: round eyes, full lips, soft cheeks.
Read them as a description of a silhouette, not a rating of a body. The same cues can appear in other identities, especially near a family boundary.
The line in clothes
The styling direction follows the line. It is a starting point for silhouettes, fabric and detail — not a list of rules about what you are allowed to wear.
| Silhouette | Fitted and rounded with a defined waist: a cropped jacket, a full skirt, a rounded neckline. |
|---|---|
| Fabric | Light, crisp and supple — silk, cotton, fine knit. |
| Detail | Small, lively and rounded with a sharp edge; bows, ruffles, small prints. |
| Friction point | Long straight lines, heavy oversized pieces, stiff fabric and no waist. |
Soft Gamine or Romantic?
Both are soft and curvy. Soft Gamine is smaller and more contrasted, with crisp detail and a sharper edge; Romantic is lush, rounded and double-curved throughout.
Height and the current rule
Petite; under 5 ft 5 in (165 cm) is the common community limit. In the current method, 5 ft 6 in (168 cm) and above is treated as a vertical dominant line; below that, the visual answers decide. Height is one input, not a verdict.

Soft Gamine: questions
Can a Soft Gamine be tall?
The identity depends on Petite, so it is not assigned to tall frames in the current method. A 5 ft 6 in (168 cm) line is vertical-dominant and belongs in another family.
What is the difference between Soft Gamine and Soft Natural?
Both have curve. Soft Gamine is petite and contrasted, with a small, fitted scale; Soft Natural is broader, longer and more relaxed, with width at the shoulder.
Why does Soft Gamine styling use “crisp” fabric?
The identity is a contrast, not a soft blend. Crisp fabric keeps the small shapes defined, while the rounded cut supplies the yin.
